Everton reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup by beating Newcastle United 3-1 in the fourth round.
James Garner, Hayden Hackney and French forward Tierno Barry scored Everton's goals at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Newcastle United's only goal came from Dan Burn late in the match.
Everton take control in the first half
Both teams produced attacking moves in the opening minutes as they played an even contest. Everton took the lead in the 34th minute.
After Tyrique George began the press and Hayden Hackney set up the attack, James Garner collected the ball and sent a curling effort from outside the penalty area into the net.
The hosts doubled their lead shortly before half-time. Hayden Hackney met Tierno Barry's accurate pass and fired the ball directly into the goal in the 45th minute, sending Everton into the break 2-0 ahead.

Newcastle's changes fail to alter the result
Seeking to reduce the deficit at the start of the second half, Newcastle United's manager brought on Anthony Elanga, Joelinton and Yoane Wissa to strengthen the attack. Although the visitors enjoyed more possession during parts of the match, Everton's defence maintained control.
Everton scored a third goal on a fast counterattack in the 69th minute. Garner won the ball in midfield and passed to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Dewsbury-Hall advanced down the left and sent in a low cross, which Barry met before firing home to make it 3-0.
Newcastle United pulled one back in the 88th minute. Dan Burn rose to meet a cross from the left and headed the ball into the net, but the goal was not enough to spark a comeback.
Everton's quarter-final opponent confirmed
Everton will face Fleetwood Town away in the quarter-finals. Fleetwood Town, who play in the second tier, caused a surprise in the previous round by eliminating Arsenal on penalties.
