Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced that Türkiye produced 2.3 million tons in its foundry industry in 2025. Bolat said the production value was approximately €8 billion, while exports totaled 1.64 million tons and generated €6.1 billion in revenue.
Speaking at the closing program of the 76th World Foundry Congress, Bolat said Türkiye’s production capacity in the foundry industry stood at 3 million tons. He said this capacity placed Türkiye seventh in the world and second in Europe in the foundry sector.
The foundry sector exports to more than 200 countries
Bolat said 71% of Türkiye’s total foundry production was exported by volume and 76% by value, adding that the sector had an export network reaching more than 200 countries and regions.
Bolat said the foundry industry, which supplies inputs to sectors including automotive, defense, household appliances, aviation, energy, machinery manufacturing and rail systems, was critical to countries’ production capabilities and industrial independence.
Assessment of Türkiye’s economic position
Bolat said global crises had affected trade, adding that Türkiye played a central role in logistics and supply chains thanks to its position between Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as its place along trade routes and energy and transport corridors.
Bolat said Türkiye had become the world’s 11th-largest economy based on purchasing power parity, compared with 18th place in 2003. He said Türkiye ranked 21st in 2003 based on current exchange rates, rose to 16th place as of last year and reached an economic size of $1.7 trillion.
Exports reached $409 billion
Bolat said Türkiye’s economy had grown by an annual real average of 5.35% over the past 23 years and had recorded uninterrupted growth for 16 years, including the pandemic year of 2020. He said economic reforms, industrial integration under the Customs Union with the European Union and the export-led growth model had been effective during this period.
Bolat announced that goods exports, which stood at $36 billion in 2002, had risen to an annualized $283.7 billion. He said total exports, including services exports, had reached $409 billion; the combined value of goods exports and imports was $665 billion, while the combined value of goods and services exports and imports was $860 billion.
Bolat said exports accounted for 25% of national income, adding that total trade in goods and services amounted to more than half of the $1.7 trillion national income.
Focus on the green transition and artificial intelligence
Bolat said Türkiye had maintained its tourism performance from the previous year despite the ongoing conflict environment in its region and the Gulf. He said the Green Deal, digital transformation and developments in artificial intelligence would closely affect professions, sectors, production and foreign trade.
Bolat noted that 2026 marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Foundry Industry Association and said the public and private sectors were working together to develop the foundry industry. He said the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Industry and Technology would continue supporting the sector, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the chain of investment, production, exports and employment.
