The second phase of Turkey's largest social housing project has begun. Following Adıyaman, the selection of apartments for the 500,000 social housing units, where beneficiaries have been determined across 81 provinces, continued in Malatya under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ).
At the draw held at the Malatya Congress and Culture Center, the block, floor and apartment numbers of the 3+1 homes for 8,448 primary beneficiaries were determined one by one. Speaking at the '500,000 Social Housing Determination Draw Ceremony, Central Bazaar and Treatment Plant Opening' in Malatya, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced the delivery date to the beneficiaries.
We Are Reuniting Beneficiaries with Their Safe and Peaceful Homes
Stating that they had promised to continue work in the region while delivering earthquake housing under the Century's Construction, Minister Kurum said that the 500,000 Social Housing Initiative launched under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is one of the strongest indicators of this approach.
Kurum said, 'Not long ago, just six months ago, we gathered again in our Malatya and drew the lots for our beneficiary brothers and sisters. Today, we are drawing the location determination lots for 8,448 beneficiary brothers and sisters; we are reuniting approximately 35,000 of our fellow citizens with their safe, solid and peaceful homes.'
Homes to Be Delivered in August
Also announcing the delivery schedule for the social housing, Kurum stated that citizens whose homes were drawn will begin moving into their new homes in August. Minister Kurum said, 'We are delivering the homes to our citizens whose homes were drawn as of August. Thus, we are increasing housing supply and reducing rental prices that put our citizens in difficulty.'
'May God grant us to live in our new homes with health, peace and abundance. May it be auspicious and blessed for all our beneficiary brothers and sisters from now on,' he said.
'80,000 Solid Homes Have Replaced the Rubble'
Conveying his get-well wishes to the people of Malatya due to the recent earthquake in Battalgazi, Kurum also touched upon the work carried out in the city after the February 6 earthquakes.
Kurum said, 'In the disaster of the century, we lost lives, our hearts burned, but we never lost hope for a moment. We said, "Even the darkest night has a bright morning," and the state and nation joined hands.' Regarding the point reached in Malatya, Kurum said, 'Thank God, you trusted us, and God did not embarrass us before you, our Malatya brothers and sisters.'
'In Malatya, hope has replaced pain, and 80,000 solid homes have replaced the rubble,' he said.
525 Billion Lira Investment in Malatya
Minister Kurum stated that in addition to social housing, investments in Malatya's infrastructure, environment, trade and production are continuing.
Noting that the Duranlar Wastewater Treatment Plant will contribute to protecting the city's nature and using water resources more efficiently, Kurum said that the historic Bakırcılar Bazaar, which was heavily damaged in the earthquake, has also been revived. Explaining the scale of investments in Malatya, Kurum said, 'To date, we have realized 525 billion lira worth of investment in our Malatya through our Ministry.'
'Currently, our investment worth 310 billion lira is continuing unabated,' he said.
'Our Work Will Not End Just Because the Homes Are Finished'
Reminding of the promise they made regarding the earthquake zone, Kurum stated that they had said, 'Our work in the earthquake zone will not end just because the homes are finished,' and added, 'We will both erase the traces of the disaster and we are also willing to build the future of our cities.'
Noting that work will continue from nation gardens to social housing, from infrastructure investments to environmental projects, Kurum said they will continue to work to make Malatya a more resilient and livable city.
'Our 500,000 Homes, Which They Said Would Not Be Finished in 20 Years, Are Standing Tall'
In the continuation of his speech, responding to criticisms directed at the government after the February 6 earthquakes, Kurum made striking remarks about the work carried out during the disaster period. Kurum said, 'We said it then, and we say it today: The day of disaster is not a day of perception. The day of disaster is a day of solidarity! We never used pain as a political tool.'
We did not bow to black propaganda. We produced works, not polemics. We did not argue; we rushed to serve,' he said. Responding to the 'Where is the state?' criticisms, Kurum said, 'They asked from the screens, "Where is the state?" We were on the ground, shoulder to shoulder with our nation. They eagerly waited, thinking "They will be trapped under this rubble." We ran tirelessly from search and rescue to new homes. Because for us, what matters is keeping our promise.'
'Never to leave the citizen alone in their most difficult day!' he said.
'We Finished in 2 Years, Delivered'
Reminding of the homes built in the earthquake zone, Minister Kurum said, 'Our 500,000 homes, which they said "would not be finished in 20 years," are standing tall. We finished in 2 years, delivered. Their lies have been proven false. Our warm homes are welcoming our noble nation!'
Kurum continued his words, saying, 'Today, the rising neighborhoods are our witness. The opened businesses, the revived bazaars are our witness. Our nation believed in our President. They trusted. And we did not betray that trust. This state did it. This nation succeeded. Turkey succeeded!' Emphasizing that they will continue to work in line with the goals of the Turkish Century, Kurum said, 'We will build safe cities. We will build strong tomorrows.'
'We will shoulder the Turkish Century together,' he said.
