Aylin Kotil, the former wife of lawmaker Mustafa Sarıgül, and their son Ömer Sarıgül were detained in Istanbul by financial crimes police. Journalist Murat Ağırel was also detained as part of the investigation. Emir Sarıgül, who is subject to a detention order, was reported to be planning to turn himself in to police.
In a statement, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said it launched the investigation following a complaint by German nationals K.P. and M.B. into transactions aimed at laundering large sums of money of unknown origin through companies set up in Türkiye and abroad.

Detention orders for six people
According to the statement, the complainants cited an 80-million-euro contract, a 100-million-euro wire transfer, a 1-billion-euro fund they were promised would be taken abroad via loans using public authority and influence, and a 1.5-million-euro boat sale. Detention orders were issued for Emir Sarıgül, Ömer Sarıgül, Aylin Kotil, Volkan Aslanbaş, Cavidan Tanrah Artuner and Murat Ağırel.
The statement said the complainants claimed they had passed information and documents to journalist Murat Ağırel and were threatened after these were relayed to the people concerned. Allegations concerning lawmaker Mustafa Sarıgül will be sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for separate assessment. The prosecutor’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
