National sailor Doğukan Kandemir, who set off from Hopa on June 26 for his 'Solo Turkey Tour Record' attempt, reached İskenderun after crossing the Black Sea, Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean, setting a new record. Kandemir, whose boat engine was sealed under the supervision of a Turkish Sailing Federation representative, completed the journey using only wind power in 11 days, 9 hours and 40 minutes.
At a ceremony organized by the İskenderun Sailing Specialization and Water Sports Club, Kandemir was presented with an award and shared his feelings with an AA reporter. Reminding that he had previously completed this route with a two-person crew, Kandemir said, "Now I have completed the same route alone in 11 days, 9 hours and 40 minutes. It actually finished even faster than the target I had set. That's why I am very happy."
The ceremony was attended by İskenderun District Governor Muhammet Önder, Coast Guard Eastern Mediterranean Group Commander Major Onur Emir, İskenderun District Director of Youth and Sports Ferit Ali Gündel, and İskenderun Sailing Club President Meriç Özkaya.
