The Ministry of Trade announced that nearly 3 tons of drugs were seized in an operation at Istanbul's Ambarlı Port.
According to the written statement from the ministry, a container arriving at the port to enter Turkey was flagged as suspicious following risk analysis and targeting efforts. Detailed searches uncovered powdery substances concealed among commercial goods inside the container.
Analyses conducted by the Customs Enforcement Criminal Laboratory Directorate identified the substances as pregabalin (pharmaceutical active ingredient) type drugs.
The statement emphasized that the investigation into the incident is being meticulously pursued by the relevant Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, and included the following remarks:
"The Ministry of Trade’s Customs Enforcement teams, with advanced risk analysis systems, technological capabilities, and effective inspection capacity, are resolutely continuing their efforts, in coordination with relevant law enforcement units, to prevent all forms of smuggling, particularly drug trafficking."
