OpenAI, a U.S. artificial intelligence company, announced that its models had achieved three significant scientific results in mathematics, computer science and physics.
According to the company, the models proved the "local smoothing conjecture" in harmonic analysis in all dimensions. In computer science, they refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), which had long been considered true. In physics, they produced results toward proving the mathematical existence of certain quantum field theories, including quantum chromodynamics (QCD).

OpenAI said the results had been verified using a method called Lean, that it had begun working with expert researchers to validate the findings, and that it would make the raw data available for independent review. The company will also fund a conference examining the results' implications for computer science.
The results are based on the company's own statement; independent peer review has not yet been completed.
