The ornamental plants sector achieved approximately $100 million in exports in the first half of 2024. Sector representative Yılmaz announced that exports, which stood at $98 million in the same period last year, reached $100 million this year, marking a 2% increase.
Yılmaz noted that the sector had closed 2023 with $160 million in exports and started 2024 with an increase. Pointing out that exports were made to more than 80 countries in the first six months, Yılmaz said, "We foresee that exports will increase in the remaining period and the year will end at a good level."
Yılmaz stated that the extreme heat affecting Europe had negatively impacted consumption, causing growth to fall below expectations. He said the most important markets are European countries, led by the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and also noted that intense flower exports were made to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Turkic Republics.
Yılmaz added that the most exported product in the sector is carnations, and that Sweet William, gerbera and green plants also hold a significant share in exports.
