Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke at a joint press conference in Berlin, Germany. Tusk emphasized the great importance of giving a clear and unequivocal message regarding Europe's unity and transatlantic relations ahead of the planned NATO summit in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The press conference followed a meeting in Berlin of the leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also participated online.
Stating that the future of Europe and the Western world depends on preserving European unity and transatlantic ties, Tusk underlined that this message must be conveyed clearly before the Ankara summit.
Tusk noted that Poland will continue to work to preserve European unity throughout Ukraine's war with Russia, and emphasized that his country will continue to defend transatlantic relations despite some politicians not fully appreciating the importance of these ties.
Tusk said they will work to ensure representation of the eastern flank countries, which are directly threatened by Russia's aggressive policies, in all international forums, and stated that achieving success in the clash of civilizations with Russia would be difficult without Poland, the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, and Romania.
The Polish Prime Minister added that all countries must make greater efforts to strengthen European and national defense capabilities.
