A small private plane that took off from Batumi, Georgia, for Ordu-Giresun Airport made an emergency landing in the Black Sea off Pazar district in Rize due to a technical malfunction.
Following the alert, the Turkish Coast Guard Command dispatched teams to the area. The teams rescued the two Belgian nationals on board, aged 55 and 69, alive.
The two people were taken to Kaçkar State Hospital as a precaution. Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş announced that their condition was stable.
Emergency declared
Baydaş said an emergency was declared after contact was established with the plane. He said the aircraft was unable to approach the airport and had to land in the sea, adding that coast guard teams reached the plane shortly afterward.
Governor Baydaş said the plane's engine had malfunctioned and that teams were working to recover the aircraft from the sea.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure also announced that the aircraft was a WT9 model registered in France.
