Prof. Dr. Naci Görür: Earthquake Risk in Istanbul Still High
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated that the probability of a major earthquake in Istanbul is at 48 percent and that preparations should be made.
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür: "We are expecting an earthquake in Istanbul. Scientific studies conducted after the 1999 earthquake showed that the probability of a major earthquake within 30 years was over 60 percent. Later revised studies reduced this rate to 48 percent. So, the likelihood of a major earthquake in Istanbul in the coming years is still high. However, it is not possible to know the exact date of the earthquake. Scientific studies show us the risk; what is important is to be prepared for this risk."
