Sky has announced a new three-part original series that brings together the stories of Dynamo and Harry Houdini in a single production. The series will premiere later this year.
The production highlights Dynamo's last live performance before an audience, featuring a dangerous act. Central scenes include the artist being strapped into a straitjacket, locked inside a burning car, and suspended about 30 meters high against the New York skyline.
New York plays a key role in both magicians' stories
New York holds a special place in Harry Houdini's career. Sky emphasizes that Houdini lived in the city and performed some of his most famous acts there.
It is noted that Steven Frayne was given the name Dynamo in 2003 at an event in New York honoring Houdini's legacy. Today, recognized as one of modern magic's most famous names, Dynamo will travel across America in this new project, following Houdini's trail.
Focus of the three-part series
The series consists of three interconnected one-hour episodes. It will depict Dynamo retracing Houdini's steps on the 100th anniversary of Houdini's death while pushing his own skills to new heights.
Throughout the series, Dynamo centers on one question: What would Houdini do if he were alive today?
Production team and release plan
Shirley Jones, head of Sky's entertainment content acquisitions, described the project as a celebration of Houdini's enduring legacy and a showcase of Dynamo's skill and showmanship. Jones said the production combines strong storytelling, astonishing magic, and impressive scenes.
Dynamo vs Houdini is a co-production between Shine TV and Seventeen17. Rowland French serves as executive producer and showrunner, with Matt Bennett and Leon Wilson representing Shine TV, and Frayne as executive producer for Seventeen17.
James Tyndall directs the series. Sacha Clayton is the producer, and Holly Sait is the production manager.
Sky announced that Phil Edgar-Jones commissioned the series, which will be part of the company's original entertainment content lineup.
