Soldier dies after intervening in border crossing incident in Yüksekova
Infantry Contract Private Yusuf Sait Ünlü, who was wounded by gunfire while intervening in a border crossing incident in Hakkari’s Yüksekova district, was martyred at Hakkari State Hospital despite all medical efforts.
Infantry Contract Private Yusuf Sait Ünlü, who was wounded by gunfire while intervening in a border crossing incident in Hakkari’s Yüksekova district, was martyred at the hospital where he was taken.
According to a statement by the Ministry of National Defence, the incident occurred on October 31 in the area of responsibility of the 7th Border Brigade Command. Ünlü was wounded by gunfire while intervening in a border crossing incident and taken by helicopter to Hakkari State Hospital, but could not be saved despite all medical efforts.
The Ministry of National Defence statement said, “May God have mercy on our beloved martyr, who lost his life in this incident that has caused us deep pain and sorrow. We extend our condolences and wish patience to his grieving family, the Turkish Armed Forces and our noble nation.”
Minister Güler offers condolences
Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler also said in a condolence message he published, “On behalf of myself and the personnel of the Ministry of National Defence, I ask God to have mercy on our heroic martyr and extend my condolences and wish patience to his grieving family and our noble nation.”
No official statement has yet been made about who opened fire or the details of the border crossing incident.
