French tourist Jim Viatge, visiting Istanbul, shared his observations in a video he filmed on the city's metro. Viatge said he was on the metro during rush hour and highlighted the silence inside the car and the consideration passengers showed one another.
In the video, Viatge said, "I'm on the metro during a particularly busy time. There is no noise. There are no men harassing women. There is no smell of urine. Young people give their seats to the elderly. This is wonderful."
The French tourist emphasized that what he had seen did not match some prejudices about Türkiye, saying, "Despite everything, some people will still call Türkiye a third-world country."
The rail network is expanding
Istanbul's metro and rail network has expanded in recent years with the opening of new lines. The M11 Gayrettepe–Istanbul Airport metro line, which entered service in 2023, is among the lines connecting the city center with Istanbul Airport.
The metro remains one of the most preferred modes of urban transport for Istanbul residents and tourists visiting the city, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.
