SpaceX’s Starship, the world’s largest rocket, reached orbit for the first time on its 14th test flight, launched on September 28 from Starbase in Texas. It was the first time the vehicle reached orbital speed of about 28,000 kilometers per hour.

The mission deployed 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites before Starship made a controlled splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

A Raptor Vacuum engine shut down early in the ascent, cutting the planned roughly 10-hour mission to about three hours. Even so, reaching orbit and deploying its full payload is seen as a key milestone for SpaceX’s Moon and Mars ambitions.
