Türkiye’s Embassy in Mogadishu announced that Marine Corps Staff Lieutenant Colonel Fatih Mehmet Ünal had joined the embassy as Türkiye’s Naval Attaché in Mogadishu. The embassy said it was pleased to welcome Ünal.
The announcement stressed that the Turkish Naval Forces continue to provide strong support for Türkiye-Somalia bilateral relations. It said this support covers the restructuring of the Somali Naval Forces Command, maritime security, training and capacity-building activities.
Welcomed before the Somali and Turkish flags

In photographs shared by the embassy, Ünal was seen in a white naval uniform at the entrance bearing the words “Embassy of Türkiye in Mogadishu,” standing before the Somali and Turkish flags. The images also showed Ünal holding a commemorative plaque with an embassy official and posing with an officer in camouflage uniform.

Announcement in three languages
The embassy issued the announcement in Turkish, Somali and English. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mogadishu Alkan also said recently that friendship with Somalia extends beyond diplomatic relations.
