Suspect Commits Suicide in Incident Resulting in 6 Deaths in Mersin
The suspect responsible for the deaths of 6 people and injuries to 8 others in Mersin committed suicide upon realizing he would be caught. Details of the incident are in our news report.
In the Tarsus district of Mersin, where 6 people lost their lives and 8 were injured, the suspect Metin Ö. (37) committed suicide upon realizing he would be caught. The incident began about a year ago at a butcher shop and restaurant in Kadelli Neighborhood where he worked. The suspect shot and killed Ahmet Ercan, an employee there, and the business owner Sabri Pan. While fleeing, Metin Ö. killed truck driver Gökay Selfioğlu at a gas station in Yeniköy Neighborhood. He then targeted his ex-wife Arzu Özden in Çamlıyayla district and Abdullah Koca in Yeniköy Neighborhood. Additionally, he killed Yusuf Oktay, a shepherd in Karakütük Neighborhood. During the attacks, 8 people were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment. Following helicopter-supported search efforts by the gendarmerie teams, the suspect was found in a house in the rural area of Karakütük Neighborhood. Realizing he would be caught, Metin Ö. committed suicide with the gun he had brought. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
