The Global Sumud Fleet, which set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, was stopped by the Israeli navy. It was reported that the fleet was targeted by Israeli forces in the Mediterranean while advancing from the coast of Marmaris towards Gaza, and that more than 400 activists on the boats were taken to the Ashdod Port. Footage shared on social media by Israeli journalist Amit Segal alleged that activists were restrained with plastic handcuffs, held for a long time in the port area, and some were kept under intense light. These allegations sparked debate in the international community.
A statement from the fleet said that all boats were stopped and information was awaited regarding the illegal detention process. It is known that the fleet includes many Turkish citizens, civil society representatives, and activists from different countries. While the incident has become a new topic of discussion in international relations, the situation of the activists and how the process will proceed remains uncertain.
