Suspects detained as part of a 'Corruption' investigation carried out by the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit into the İzmit Municipality in Kocaeli have completed their legal procedures at the Istanbul Police Department.
The suspects, against whom accusations of 'Forming an Organization for Criminal Purposes, Bribery and Bid Rigging' have been leveled, were taken into custody in the operation and have been referred to the courthouse, including İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband Murat Hürriyet.
It emerged that within the scope of the investigation where the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention orders for 31 suspects, certain tenders were brought under review based on the statements of confidential witnesses.
Regarding the investigation in which 30 suspects were detained, it was stated that in the tenders organized by İzmit Municipality, the owners of the winning and bidding companies had kinship ties with municipal officials, and it was alleged that the spouse of the İzmit Mayor had a direct connection to the tender processes, personnel recruitment and staffing decisions.
