Train services across Germany were halted. A spokesperson for German railway company Deutsche Bahn announced that the situation was caused by a radio failure.
According to the spokesperson's statement to the German Press Agency (DPA), all resources have been mobilized to resolve the fault. However, no clear information has yet been shared on when services will return to normal.
First statement from Deutsche Bahn
Deutsche Bahn Management Board Chair Evelyn Palla, in an assessment to Bild newspaper, stated that they are currently trying to get trains to stations. Palla said, "So that passengers can get off. Then we need to solve the problem, the exact nature of which we do not yet know."
German media reported that some trains were waiting at stations, while trains stopped on the tracks were being moved to the nearest station to allow passengers to disembark.
Hotel and taxi vouchers for passengers
Due to the nationwide suspension of train services, many passengers were affected. Deutsche Bahn reportedly distributed taxi and hotel vouchers to passengers due to the disruption.
