TÜBİTAK Science High School, which aims to train qualified human resources for the National Technology Initiative, drew attention with the achievements of its students in the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Yağız Akbulut, among the school's first graduates, placed 76th in Turkey in the English section of the Foreign Language Test (YDT).
After graduation, Akbulut returned to his family in the Ladik district of Samsun and told an AA reporter that his high school education and teachers provided great support during his university preparation process. "They knew the pressure we were under. I think they did a very good job of putting us at ease. They showed interest in us and didn't leave us alone," he said.
Describing his planned study routine in his final year, Akbulut said he started in the morning and solved tests at school until noon, progressed with subject-specific trial exams, and focused on solving as many questions as possible. Stating that deciding to take the foreign language exam later was a good step for him, Akbulut said, "Our school's preparatory education and the English education it provided afterwards contributed greatly to this."
Akbulut said that his preference list includes the computer engineering departments of Istanbul Technical University and Middle East Technical University, and that he is also waiting for the result of his Anadolu scholarship application. Advising students who will take the exam next year not to give up, Akbulut said, "You shouldn't quit by saying 'It won't happen.' Despite those feelings, you need to keep going and not give up, because once you quit, it's very hard to recover."
