Op. Dr. Gültekin Koçun, an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Medicana International Izmir Hospital, and his team have developed an AI-assisted diagnostic model for ectopic pregnancy, which threatens women's health.
The developed model succeeded in detecting ectopic pregnancy cases with up to 99% clinical accuracy. It also diagnosed healthy pregnancies with 99.8% accuracy, reducing the probability of misdiagnosis to below 1%.
The study was published in IEEE Access, a respected scientific journal in the field of international engineering and technology, and was globally validated.
Early diagnosis saves lives
Op. Dr. Gültekin Koçun stated that in ectopic pregnancy, an accurate diagnosis is as critically important as an early diagnosis. He noted that with early detection, without performing any surgical intervention, they can ensure the pregnancy tissue is absorbed by the body through drug treatments that halt cell growth.
Koçun noted the following:
Non-surgical treatment is important for preserving future reproductive health. Thanks to this AI support we have developed, as physicians we will be able to receive alerts at a much earlier stage. In most cases, the appropriate treatment can be administered to the patient before surgery even becomes an option.
