Eda Savcıgil, an 18-year-old national swimmer and student at the Faculty of Business, crossed the Molokai Channel between Molokai and Oahu islands in 12 hours and 41 minutes. Savcıgil became the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the channel.
Swimming the course in the Pacific Ocean, Savcıgil battled suddenly rising waves and strong currents during the crossing. Venomous jellyfish and sharks were also among the challenging conditions on the course.
Savcıgil’s Ocean's Seven goal
Savcıgil said that becoming the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the Molokai Channel, as well as completing the course safely despite the ocean and weather conditions, further motivated her.

The national swimmer aims to complete the Ocean's Seven. The Molokai Channel was the second leg toward this goal.
She also set a record in the Catalina Channel
Savcıgil previously swam the 32-kilometer Catalina Channel, the first leg of the Ocean's Seven, in 10 hours and 27 minutes. With this performance, she became the fastest Turkish female swimmer and the youngest Turkish athlete to complete the course.
