Sustainable tourism certification to be expanded
The 2026 Travel and Tourism Development Index presented Türkiye as an example of a country managing rapid growth in the tourism sector according to sustainability criteria.
More than 2,650 tourism facilities in Türkiye have received certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. Making possession of this certification mandatory for all accommodation facilities by 2030 is planned.
The National Sustainable Tourism Program includes measures aimed at reducing environmental impacts, protecting cultural heritage and ensuring that the social and economic gains from tourism benefit local communities more substantially.
