Türkiye is participating as a competitor country for the first time in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026). Students from Istanbul Bahçeşehir Private Science and Technology High School will represent Türkiye at the third edition of the olympiad, to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 2-9.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the students completed their final preparations in Ankara. The representative team was selected after a selection process involving students from 30 schools across Türkiye.
The students underwent intensive training aligned with the olympiad curriculum. The training program covered topics such as atomic structure, the nucleus, radiation, nuclear fission and fusion, environmental radioactivity, radiation risks and safety, and applications of nuclear and radiation technologies.
As part of the preparations, the students also completed a two-day hands-on training at the Nuclear Energy Research Institute, which operates under the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Authority (TENMAK).

Students target medals
Student Ömer Akan, whose views were included in the ministry's statement, said they felt great pride in representing the country, adding: "We have prepared for this stage in the best possible way. We hope to achieve great success in the competitions. We thank our Energy Minister for his continuous support."
His teammate Mert Andaç Kara expressed excitement about winning a medal in this tournament, which Türkiye is participating in for the first time.
Türkiye, which participated in last year's event as an "observer," is competing this year. The international science event aims to enhance cooperation in nuclear science and technology education.
