Türkiye’s national football team lost 4-1 to Italy in its second match in Group 1 of UEFA Nations League A. Italy led 3-0 at halftime in the match at Yüzüncü Yıl Atatürk Stadium.
Italy took the lead in the ninth minute through Bastoni. Bastoni slid to meet the ball sent toward the edge of the six-yard box by Ruggeri’s corner from the left and found the net despite goalkeeper Altay Bayındır’s intervention.
In the 22nd minute, Frattesi converted the rebound from Kayode’s shot after Raspadori had played the ball into the penalty area to make it 2-0. Italy finished the first half 3-0 ahead with Kayode’s goal in the 27th minute.
Türkiye began the second half with a goal. In the 47th minute, Barış Alper Yılmaz sent Oğuz Aydın’s cutback from in front of the six-yard box into the net to reduce the deficit to two.
Italy restored its three-goal advantage in the 50th minute. Francesco Pio Esposito headed in Tonali’s shot after it came back off the post. The national team had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 80th minute, but Kerem Aktürkoğlu’s close-range shot from a move created by Arda Güler went over the bar.

Italy head coach Roberto Mancini said after the match that his players had followed the plan and that he was particularly satisfied with their performance during the first 60 minutes. Mancini said they had maintained their concentration throughout the match and scored through set-piece routines they had practiced.
Mancini said he was pleased with the contribution of the young players to the victory and added that Türkiye was improving with each passing year. The Italian coach said they had faced a good Türkiye and a good head coach, adding that the score resulted from his team’s strong performance.
National team player İsmail Yüksek said they had produced a performance in the first half that did not suit the team and that the score had upset them. Yüksek said they had played better in the second half and would work to improve the team’s situation, adding that they wanted to achieve results worthy of the country in their next two matches.
Yüksek said the team’s position did not suit them, but added that they had a squad that had previously achieved good results in difficult away matches. The national team player said the team would get out of this situation through the players’ efforts once again.

Türkiye national football team head coach Vincenzo Montella recalled that Türkiye had competed in League C two and a half years earlier and had been promoted to League A after winning League B under his leadership. Montella said playing a match every three days at this level was not easy and that the team needed to become accustomed to top-level matches.
Montella said he thought the team had made a poor start in the first 30 minutes and deserved to be booed, adding that he was proud of the reaction shown in the second half. The head coach stressed that the players and coaching staff needed to learn from the match while continuing forward without losing their confidence.
Montella said he was not considering resigning and believed in his work. The head coach said he would stand by his players and noted that mental renewal needed to be given as much importance as physical preparation to ensure the team was better prepared.
Montella also said Barış Alper Yılmaz and Kerem Aktürkoğlu had played outside their usual positions and had given their best. He said Kenan Yıldız, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Mert Müldür were absent from the squad, while Orkun Kökçü had wanted to remain with the team despite his injury. Montella added that it would be better to introduce new players to this level gradually.
