TÜRSAB President Firuz Bağlıkaya said Türkiye’s tourism sector maintained strong visitor numbers this summer despite regional conflicts and geopolitical risks.
Bağlıkaya said Türkiye continues to be a stable holiday destination despite rising tensions in neighboring countries. He identified Russia, Germany and the United Kingdom as the main source markets for Türkiye’s tourism sector.
Bağlıkaya said Türkiye stands like an oasis amid regional turmoil and has maintained this position in the tourism sector.
Emphasis on diversity in tourism
Bağlıkaya said cultural, gastronomy and business tourism should be developed further without reducing Türkiye’s capacity for coastal tourism. He added that health tourism had gained significant momentum over the past 10 years.
Bağlıkaya said progress in congress tourism was also continuing gradually.
Call for regulations on digital platforms
Bağlıkaya said regulations concerning foreign digital travel platforms should not put companies operating in Türkiye at a disadvantage. He said Europe had experienced serious problems over these issues and that some platforms had been fined heavily.
The TÜRSAB president announced that they plan to conduct active lobbying after the Turkish Grand National Assembly resumes work in October to establish policies opposing the tourism sector in Türkiye being left under the control of foreign organizations.
Bağlıkaya said companies operating in the digital sphere could have the power to decide when to offer tourism services, adding that it would be wrong for the sector to lose control in this area.
