Uğur Yılmaz and Yavuz Canbaşı were arrested in an investigation by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office after a tip-off to CİMER revealed they were preparing an organization-linked 'high-profile action' targeting Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and his wife.
The investigation revealed that the suspects conducted reconnaissance on the target, carried out address and route planning, and that unlicensed firearms and 3,206,000 lira in cash were seized in operations. Very important details emerged regarding the planned armed action against Justice Minister Akın Gürlek.
Following a tip-off to CİMER, physical and intelligence work led to the detention and referral to court of the two suspects preparing the action. CİMER uncovered the treacherous plan. According to the investigation file, the process began with detailed statements from a whistleblower via CİMER.
The whistleblower stated that the suspects, who used code names and had numerous criminal records, purchased tickets from abroad, mentioned Justice Minister Akın Gürlek's wife, and examined the location of Süzer Plaza on Google Maps.
It was learned that the suspects wrote down the full address of Süzer Plaza on a piece of paper, examined the routes to the location in detail, and discussed how to bring the weapon inside the plaza. The whistleblower, who stated that the order came from abroad, said they later realized the target was Justice Minister Akın Gürlek's wife and reported the situation to the authorities.
They recruited young people aged 18-25 as triggermen. Physical and intelligence work determined that suspects Uğur Yılmaz and Yavuz Canbaşı supplied members aged 18-25 to organized crime groups based domestically and abroad. It was established that the young people they supplied carried out armed actions and shootings.
Millions of lira in cash and unlicensed firearms seized. In operations conducted by the Gendarmerie at the suspects' addresses on different dates, two unlicensed firearms and ammunition believed to be used in the actions, along with 3,206,000 lira in cash thought to belong to the criminal organization, were seized.
While the statements taken from suspect Uğur Yılmaz were contradictory, he could not explain the source of the seized money.
ARRESTED. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the tip-off was detailed and consistent with the obtained criminal elements, and that there were concrete facts indicating strong suspicion that the suspects committed the alleged crime. It requested the arrest of Uğur Yılmaz and Yavuz Canbaşı and referred the file to the Duty Magistrate Court. Both suspects were arrested.
