The Russian Investigative Committee announced that two teenagers have been detained in connection with an assassination attempt targeting an employee at a scientific-production facility in Moscow.
According to the investigation, on the evening of June 9, an explosion occurred involving a Zeekr brand vehicle in a parking lot in the city. Authorities later reported that security forces intervened due to a suspicious device found under the vehicle.
Officials stated that the detainees are two minors, one female and one male. According to the investigation authorities, the girl, following instructions from directing individuals, retrieved the explosive device from a hiding place and handed it over to the boy.
The boy is alleged to have placed a GPS tracking device on a vehicle believed to belong to the targeted individual using the explosive device. The identity of the targeted employee has not been disclosed.
Some reports suggest that the individual may be an employee working at the "Polyus" research institute technopark within Rostec. Based on published satellite and street images, the exploded vehicle is believed to have been parked opposite the said institute.
The two teenagers are being investigated on charges of attempted murder and illegal preparation, transfer, storage, and transportation of explosive materials. Authorities are also examining whether the pair were involved in similar acts.
Hours before this incident, another vehicle exploded in the Aviatorov neighborhood of Moscow’s Balashikha district, resulting in the death of the BMW X3 driver. Russian authorities did not disclose the identity of the deceased for the first time.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on June 10 that the explosion was reported to Vladimir Putin but did not reveal the name of the deceased.
