In a statement from Brussels Airport, it was reported that Skeyes employees, the institution responsible for Belgium's airspace, went on an unannounced strike today from 14:00 to 21:00. The statement pointed out that due to the unauthorized strike suddenly initiated by the controllers, flight traffic in Belgian airspace could not be carried out. Passengers with flights during these hours were asked not to come to the airport, and it was noted that air traffic is expected to resume after 21:00, with updated information to be announced by the airlines. Charleroi Airport also stated in its related announcement that after the Skeyes air traffic controllers' strike, which caused the cancellation of many flights between 06:30 and 09:30 in the morning, a new strike has started and operations have stopped. The statement emphasized that all flights departing or arriving from 14:15 onwards have been canceled, and passengers were asked to contact airlines for refunds or rebooking. It was advised that passengers with flights after 21:00 check the status of their flights on the airlines' websites. Air traffic controllers are criticizing the process of transferring control of Liege and Charleroi airports to the new digital center in Namur starting next year. Employees are protesting potential issues related to working conditions, staff numbers, training, and workload that may arise with the implementation of the new system.
