The talk, organized in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Istanbul and starting at 7 p.m., will be titled "Quality Over Quantity: A New Strategic Direction." In her talk, Gordenker will describe the founding story of the Van Gogh Museum and the strategic approach it has adopted since 2021.
The free event will be open to all art lovers. Simultaneous interpretation will also be provided.
The founding of the Van Gogh Museum
Founded after an agreement between Vincent van Gogh's heirs and the Dutch state, the Van Gogh Museum opened in Amsterdam in 1973.
The museum houses more than 200 of the artist's paintings, about 500 drawings, hundreds of letters and various other works of art. The institution also operates as an international research center on Van Gogh's life and work.

In addition to permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum organizes educational programs and presents Van Gogh's works alongside those of his contemporaries. Scholarly research on the artist's life, working methods and works is also carried out at the institution.
The museum's architecture
An exhibition wing designed by Kisho Kurokawa was added in 1999 to the main building designed by Gerrit Rietveld. A new entrance building integrated with the Museumplein was completed in 2015.

Emilie Gordenker's career
Gordenker, who earned her bachelor's degree at Yale University, received her doctorate in 17th-century Dutch and Flemish art from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Frick Collection and the Netherlands Institute for Art History.
Gordenker served as director of the Mauritshuis in The Hague from 2008 to 2020 and led the museum's historic renovation project. Taking over as director of the Van Gogh Museum in February 2020, Gordenker played a role in developing the institution's strategic direction.
