AMD has reached a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, led by artificial intelligence pioneer Dr. Fei-Fei Li. The transaction, valued at approximately $8.2 billion, will be conducted entirely in stock.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
World Labs team to join AMD
As part of the deal, the World Labs team, comprising researchers and model experts from around the world, is expected to join AMD. AMD said the combination would strengthen its ability to develop hardware, software and systems tailored to the needs of emerging artificial intelligence models and applications.

As artificial intelligence expands into reasoning, robotics, simulation and physical AI, the needs of computing infrastructure are becoming more diverse. World Labs' expertise in developing advanced models is expected to contribute to a better understanding of changing workloads and help shape AMD's future technology roadmap.

World Labs develops spatial intelligence models
Based in San Francisco, World Labs develops spatial intelligence models that create interactive three-dimensional environments from text, image and video inputs, and reconstruct and simulate those environments.
The company also works on technologies for robotic learning and simulation. AMD said the acquisition would advance its strategy of providing artificial intelligence infrastructure for an open ecosystem.
