Concrete work on the floor slab of the machine-room building at the fourth power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, under construction in Türkiye, has been completed.
The concreted floor will serve as the machine-room floor and provide the structure with the necessary strength to withstand the high dynamic loads generated by operating equipment. The main equipment, including the turbine, shaft-turning mechanism and generator, will be maintained through this section.
After the concrete work was completed, plant experts began preparations for the turbine unit foundation.
Control system work at the first unit
Several days ago, Rosatom President Alexey Likhachev visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant site and inspected the readiness of the control system for the first power unit. The working meeting addressed the latest status of the plant’s construction and progress on the project’s main elements.
Following the completion of the first-stage hydraulic tests, experts started the main circulation pumps. Likhachev said the aim was to complete the stage required to proceed to the operating license as soon as possible and begin commissioning by the end of the year.
The plant’s block control center houses the operator work areas for the reactor facility, turbine section and shift supervisor. Operations personnel monitor the power unit’s core technological systems from central automation workstations.
Four power units planned
The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is being built as Türkiye’s first nuclear power plant project. The project calls for the construction of four power units equipped with Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors.
