Antalya ranked first in the world in 2026 for the number of beaches holding the international Blue Flag award. The city has 232 beaches carrying the award.
Across Türkiye, 570 beaches hold the Blue Flag, placing the country third in the world rankings.
Blue Flag reflects environmental cleanliness
Mustafa Ergiydiren, TÜRÇEV's Antalya provincial coordinator, said the Blue Flag is one of the indicators of clean seas and a clean environment.
Public institutions and municipalities in Antalya identify the sources of marine pollution. Emergency action plans are activated when necessary, while businesses that pollute the sea and environment may face fines and other sanctions.
Beach cleaning efforts continue
Sea-cleaning boats operated by the municipalities of Antalya, Alanya and Kemer contribute to cleaning the coastline. Establishing beaches with designated non-smoking areas has also emerged as an important practice in keeping the coast clean.
Research conducted by TÜRÇEV as part of its project to monitor marine litter shows that cigarette butts containing plastic make up a significant share of the pollution on beaches.
Cleaning cigarette butts is particularly difficult on pebble beaches, where much of the work has to be done by hand.
