News reports, press statements and Grand National Assembly of Türkiye speeches from Özgür Özel’s tenure as chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) have been removed from the party’s official website. The change was first announced by ANKA News Agency.
An examination by The Türkiye Times on November 1 found that the press statements archive on chp.org.tr jumps directly from content dated July 2, 2026, to October 11, 2023. Özel was elected CHP chair in November 2023. According to information published in the media, statements by deputy chairs and party spokespersons, party bulletins, reports and photographs are also no longer in the archive.
Kılıçdaroğlu listed on the chair’s page
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s name appears in the website’s Chair section with the title “Chair.” The section lists statements concerning Kılıçdaroğlu’s visits to Gaziantep and Cizre in October.

After the absolute nullity ruling
The change came after the May 21, 2026, ruling of absolute nullity concerning the CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress. The ruling removed Özel and his administration from office, and Kılıçdaroğlu returned to the chairmanship. The case is pending before the Court of Cassation. Özel continues his political career today as the chair of the New Party.
In September, the site also removed Özel’s March 18 statement titled “The Smallest of the Turnips.” The CHP leadership has not issued a statement on the latest change.
