New claims have emerged about how right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who lost Brazil's presidential election to Lula da Silva, left the country. CNN Brasil reported, citing security-camera footage, that Bolsonaro left Brazil in an operation involving two minibuses, a private jet and a former agent of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad.
From the bridge to Argentina, then by private jet
CNN Brasil reported that Bolsonaro traveled by land to Argentina with his wife and two daughters via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge in the country's south. In the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazu, the family boarded a Gulfstream G400 private jet operated by the Argentine company Baires Fly.
A former Israeli intelligence official who had previously worked for Mossad and arrived in Brazil on October 19 was also alleged to have accompanied Bolsonaro as far as Argentina. CNN Brasil alleged that the escape, dubbed “Operation Alba,” was planned before the election campaign ended.
His passport was due to be seized
A decision had been made to seize Bolsonaro's passport as he faced ongoing investigations into corruption and money laundering. However, Bolsonaro was later found to have secretly left the country before the decision could be enforced; he first went to Argentina and then to Ecuador. President Lula described his departure despite the travel ban as “shameful.”
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) is investigating Flavio Bolsonaro over alleged illegal financing of the film “Dark Horse,” which tells the life story of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. U.S. President Trump had announced that he would allow Bolsonaro and his family to enter the United States.
