The Competition Board has launched an investigation into 18 companies operating in the plant protection or plant nutrition products market. The investigation will determine whether the companies violated the Law on the Protection of Competition by sharing competitively sensitive information.
Plant protection products are used to protect plants against pests, diseases and harmful organisms. Plant nutrition products aim to improve plant health, efficiency and productivity by providing essential nutrients.
Information sharing under investigation
The investigation will assess the possible effects on competition of sharing information among the companies, including product-specific prices and sales volumes, targets to be met, payment terms and discount rates.
It will examine whether this information sharing could reduce strategic uncertainty among competitors and lead to coordination between competitors in the plant protection or plant nutrition products markets.
