The defamation lawsuits filed by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy on the grounds of personality rights violations were concluded with court rulings. According to the decisions announced on July 1, 2026, both a member of parliament and a newspaper were ordered to pay damages.
The Istanbul 33rd Civil Court of First Instance ordered 50,000 lira in moral damages to be paid because of the allegations made by İYİ Party 28th Term Balıkesir MP Turhan Çömez about Minister Ersoy in a video he published on YouTube in 2025. In the video, Çömez had claimed that forest lands in the Bodrum Kissebükü area were allocated to Ersoy’s company, that a situation of profiteering was created in the region, and that public resources were used in this context. The court found these allegations groundless and ruled on the case.
In the second lawsuit filed after similar allegations were published in the Sözcü newspaper, the Istanbul 15th Civil Court of First Instance reached a similar decision. The court also ordered the newspaper’s author, board chairman, and the responsible company to pay 50,000 lira in moral damages. With this ruling, it was affirmed that both sides had made baseless accusations against the minister’s reputation.
