Due to the heavy rains recently affecting Gaziantep's Karkamış district, the fullness rate of Karkamış Dam and Birecik Dam exceeded 100%. Because the water amount reached a critical level, the dam gates were opened in a controlled manner. This situation caused the picnic areas along the Euphrates River to be submerged. Authorities stated that the controlled water discharge was done to balance the water level in the region. The temporary unusability of the picnic areas in the region indicates that citizens need to be cautious.
