Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf harshly criticized the US following Israel's attack on Beirut's Dahiye district in Lebanon.
In a statement posted on his social media account in the evening, Ghalibaf said this attack once again demonstrates that the US either lacks the will or the power to implement its commitments.
The Iranian politician stated that "the bad cop, good cop game is now outdated," emphasizing that the US cannot give Israel the green light and then try to reap the benefits.
Ghalibaf said in his statement, "If you lack the will or the power to fulfill your commitments, it is not possible to speak of a path forward."
The Israeli army, meanwhile, announced hours earlier that it had targeted a Hezbollah center in Beirut's Dahiye district in response to attacks launched from Lebanon.
The attack took place at a time when Iran and the US were preparing to sign an agreement. Some reports claimed that the electronic signing ceremony was planned for today.
The article also recalled that on the 17th, Israel also targeted Beirut's Dahiye district, after which a roughly 16-hour period of tension between Iran and Israel ensued.
Iran maintains that any potential agreement must include a halt to the war in Lebanon. The US and Israel, however, are said to want a separate deal for Lebanon, a framework that aims to guarantee the disarmament of Hezbollah.
