In an incident on March 30 in Nazilli, Aydın, Büşra Cin, a senior international relations student at Adnan Menderes University's Nazilli Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, was found shot in the chest at the home of her boyfriend Özcan Korkmaz in the Karaçay neighborhood.
Korkmaz called 112 and reported that he found Büşra injured when he arrived home. Medical teams arriving at the scene determined that the young woman had lost her life. Korkmaz, taken into custody as a suspect, was later arrested by the court.
Key findings in evidence examination
Police examination of the crime scene detected DNA and fingerprints of both Büşra Cin and the detained suspect Özcan Korkmaz on the gun used in the murder. As the investigation continued to gather evidence, Yeni Asır newspaper reported that gunshot residue was detected on the leather jacket Korkmaz wore on the day of the incident.
Criminal examinations to be conducted on the jacket, which has been taken into judicial custody, and Büşra's mobile phone are expected to clarify uncertainties surrounding the murder.
Suspect denies charges
Speaking at the hearing held at Nazilli 1st High Criminal Court, Özcan Korkmaz denied the allegations against him. "I definitely did not shoot Büşra. I did not kill her. If I had intended to flee, I would have run away that day," Korkmaz said, requesting acquittal.
The investigation is ongoing.
