Before the Hajj 2026 season, the Saudi Arabia National Meteorology Center announced that extreme heat conditions will occur in the holy sites in Mecca. Millions of pilgrims coming to Mecca to perform the Hajj will face high temperatures ranging between 42 and 44ºC, especially on Arafat Day. Meteorology officials stated that between May 18-25, temperatures will be between 44 and 47ºC, and humidity will vary between 10% and 40%. Additionally, winds blowing from the southwest to the northwest are expected to be at speeds of 15 to 40 km/h, which may lead to dust and sand transport. On Arafat Day, wind speeds increasing between 20 and 50 km/h, the possibility of thundercloud formation in the Taif region, and its potential impact on the holy sites were reported. Saudi officials announced that more than 1.5 million international pilgrims have entered the country, showing an increase compared to last year. The challenging nature of the Hajj ritual and extreme heat require pilgrims to be well prepared.
