In Istanbul's Bakırköy district, a dispute between a landlord and tenant escalated into a distressing eviction conflict that stirred strong emotions in the neighborhood. According to claims, the 67-year-old tenant delayed paying his monthly rent of 27,500 lira for the last two months.
Following this delay, instead of pursuing legal procedures, the landlord took matters into his own hands. Accompanied by a few people, the landlord reportedly entered the apartment and removed the tenant's belongings.
The washing machine, dishwasher, living room set, and bedroom furniture were taken down one by one and piled on the sidewalk. The elderly man was left standing in front of the door, causing discomfort among the neighbors.
Residents and neighbors expressed strong reactions, explaining that the tenant, who lives with his family of five, was abruptly forced out. They emphasized that a tenant should not be evicted in this manner without a bailiff or police presence and that the process must be conducted legally.
The landlord did not stop there; to prevent the belongings from being moved back inside, he changed the apartment's door lock and hung a rental advertisement on the windows, opening the apartment for new tenants shortly after.
The elderly man left on the street was supported by neighbors again. It was stated that another vacant apartment in the building would be prepared to temporarily accommodate the family.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of legal procedures in landlord-tenant relations in Bakırköy. It remains to be seen how the eviction will proceed and whether the parties will take any new steps.
