HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar announced that the graphics infrastructure for the large front display in the cockpit of the KAAN national combat aircraft was developed domestically.
Nacar said that, unlike displays in older-generation aircraft, KAAN's front display is a new-technology screen that uses dense graphical visuals similar to those found on mobile phones and tablets. "We have completed this standard, meaning a safety-critical product meeting aviation safety standards. This level encompasses the strictest verification and validation processes in terms of flight safety," he said.
"Türkiye's most domestically developed flying platform"
Recalling that TUSAŞ had also emphasized that KAAN would be the most domestically developed flying platform in Türkiye, Nacar said the subsystem work package completed by HAVELSAN confirmed this. "This important step in our national technology drive is an indication of HAVELSAN's contribution to our defense industry," Nacar said.
From simulation to mission planning
Nacar also discussed HAVELSAN's other roles in the KAAN project. He recalled that the initial training of KAAN pilots is conducted on the KAAN Engineering Simulator, the first engineering simulator developed by HAVELSAN.
Nacar said HAVELSAN had also developed ground-support software for KAAN, including mission planning, fleet-level mission planning and logistics software, emphasizing that the company's contribution to the project was not limited to cockpit software.
