Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the historic Ani Bridge over the Arpaçay, which forms the border between Türkiye and Armenia, will be rebuilt.
Uraloğlu said the tender for the bridge's restoration works was held on September 16 and the contract was signed on September 28.

Protocol signed in Yerevan
The protocol setting out the scope and method of the works was signed in Yerevan on May 4, 2026. A joint commission involving the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the General Directorate of Highways will carry out the restoration.
Arch collapsed in 1807
The bridge, located within the Ani archaeological site in Kars, had a circular arch spanning 31 meters that collapsed on October 16, 1807. The original structure is known to have been 80 meters long and 8 meters wide.
Uraloğlu said the reconstruction aims to preserve one of the Silk Road's important cultural heritage sites and pass it on to future generations.
