The 2026 program of the International Astronautical Congress, organized by the International Astronautical Federation, has reached a record level of abstract submissions. The congress will be held at the Antalya NEST Congress Center from October 5 to 9.
The congress will be organized under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the Turkish Space Agency serving as host. SAHA Istanbul will serve as co-host of the event.
8,330 abstracts from 108 countries
A total of 8,330 abstracts from 108 countries were submitted to the scientific program of IAC 2026. This is the highest level of submissions and country diversity in the congress’s history.
The congress held in Milan in 2024 received approximately 7,000 submissions, while the 2025 congress in Sydney received approximately 6,400. The 1,810 abstracts submitted from Türkiye also represented the highest number of submissions from a single country.
Following the evaluation process, 4,077 papers were accepted directly and 542 were placed on the reserve list. More than 4,000 accepted papers were included in the congress’s technical program.
Türkiye ranks first in accepted abstracts
Türkiye ranked first among countries with 674 accepted abstracts. The level of submissions and acceptances has increased scientific participation in the congress from Türkiye.
Early participant registration for the congress has also reached a record level. More than 3,000 registrations have been made so far from 83 countries, marking the highest early-registration level in IAC history.
The organization is expected to host more than 10,000 participants from over 100 countries. The event’s mascot, the loggerhead sea turtle Turquoise, will welcome congress guests amid a series of records.
Scientific participation expanded through campus meetings
Efforts carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology contributed to the record number of submissions. IAC 2026 was opened to participation not only from space-sector communities but also from students, academics and researchers.
As part of these efforts, IAC 2026 Campus Meetings were held at 10 universities. Participation processes for the congress’s technical program were also explained at the Sky Observation Event in Erzurum and at TEKNOFEST.
At the events, young researchers were encouraged to share their work with the international space community. In addition to announcements made through universities and academic networks, videos prepared by students and calls for participation were circulated through various communication groups and digital channels.
Technical program to span more than 180 sessions
Abstract submissions constitute the initial application stage for researchers, engineers, scientists, students and industry professionals seeking to present their scientific or technical work in the space field. Accepted papers will be shared in the congress’s technical program through oral or interactive presentations.
The technical program of IAC 2026 will include more than 180 sessions. Approximately 62 percent of the presentations are planned to be delivered in oral format and 38 percent in interactive format.
In addition to presenting scientific work, the congress aims to create opportunities for new partnerships among space agencies, companies, investors and decision-makers.
