Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagai said Iran had not received an official invitation to join the Mecca joint defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
Speaking at a televised news conference, Bagai said Iran had been offered dialogue with those countries on regional collective security issues.

Iranian parliament gives a different account
Mehdi Rahimi, the head of the Iranian parliament's news agency, told Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen television that Iran had received an official invitation to join the agreement.
Scope of the agreement
Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed the Mecca joint defense agreement on August 7. The agreement provides for strengthening joint deterrence among the parties.
Under the document, an armed attack against one of the parties is considered an attack against all three countries. The agreement also covers expanding military cooperation, coordination and joint projects in the field of defense.
