TCG Alemdar, operated by the Turkish Naval Forces, is being showcased at the TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland events held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command in Kocaeli. The ship is described as the only military rescue platform operating in the Mediterranean for submarine accidents and is considered one of the few similar military platforms in the world.
Cemil Şen, Commander of the Submarine Rescue and Underwater Command, said the ship has advanced rescue capabilities. The command manages and coordinates deep-sea operations, wreck removal, underwater repairs, and search-and-rescue efforts.

Up to 14 days of ventilation support
Built using domestic capabilities as part of a project by the Presidency of Defence Industries, TCG Alemdar joined the Naval Forces Command on January 28, 2017. The ship’s primary mission is to safely evacuate submarine personnel through rescue operations.
TCG Alemdar can provide ventilation support for up to 14 days to the personnel of a submarine that has lost the ability to surface, at depths of up to 600 meters. Its rescue bell can bring submarine personnel to the surface from a depth of 207 meters.

Search capacity at a depth of 1,000 meters
The ship can also search for missing objects at depths of up to 1,000 meters. It is equipped to provide first aid and decompression treatment to rescued people, and also has a landing platform for helicopter medical evacuations.
The TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland events are being held as part of TEKNOFEST 2026 to highlight Türkiye’s maritime power and domestic capabilities in the defence industry. Bringing together maritime affairs, technology and the defence industry, the events will end on Sunday.
