Elections for professional committee and assembly members at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) have concluded. The elections, which represent more than 800,000 companies in Istanbul's business community, determined 620 professional committee members and 270 assembly members who will serve on those committees.
Members went to the polls at the Istanbul Expo Center in Yeşilköy from 8 a.m. to elect the representatives who will serve them for four years. The members of İTO's 80 professional committees and the representatives who will serve in the İTO Assembly from those committees were thereby determined.
Supported lists secure an 85 percent majority
Speaking after the elections, İTO President Şekib Avdagiç thanked the members who had once again deemed him worthy of the position. Avdagiç said the lists they supported secured an 85 percent majority in the 270-member İTO Assembly.
Avdagiç said the results showed that the services and projects carried out by İTO had been approved by a large majority of the members who took part in the election, adding, "İTO has won once again."
Turnout higher than in 2022
Avdagiç said the elections were an important test for Istanbul's business community and described them as the largest election in the Turkish business world. He said turnout was higher than in 2022 despite the weather conditions and noted that the necessary measures had been taken to enable members to vote comfortably.
Avdagiç said Istanbul's business community had conducted the elections with great maturity, adding that the work carried out during the 2022-2026 period had, in a sense, been put to a vote of confidence. He said they would continue working with the 270-member assembly that began its term in the new period for Istanbul, Türkiye's economy and society.
New administration to be determined on November 4
İTO President Avdagiç announced that the new chair of the executive board, the executive board, the disciplinary board, delegates to the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye, the assembly chair and the assembly presidium would be determined in an election to be held on Wednesday, November 4.
Avdagiç said the projects and activities launched during the 20th term and continued during the 21st term would be completed, while new projects would also be added. He said they would continue working for Istanbul and Türkiye during İTO's 22nd term.
