Nearly 10 tons of narcotics seized by the Istanbul Police Department's Narcotics Crimes Unit in operations conducted between 2023 and 2026 have been destroyed.
The drugs, whose court proceedings had been completed and whose destruction had been ordered, were incinerated at a factory in Istanbul on Oct. 14.
"An all-out war on drugs"
Istanbul Police Chief Selami Yıldız said they were targeting every link in the criminal chain, from drug lords to street dealers and their sources of financing. "We have declared all-out war on drugs. We are waging this fight not only on behalf of Istanbul but on behalf of all humanity," Yıldız said.

More than 15 tons seized this year
Between Jan. 1 and Oct. 18, 2026, operations across Istanbul seized 15 tons and 44 kilograms of narcotics, along with 27.7 million narcotic and stimulant pills.
Destruction operations are scheduled during the year depending on the amount ordered to be destroyed. Drugs have been destroyed three times a year in Istanbul for the past three years.
